For anyone who knows me, it doesn't take long to figure out that I have a particular affinity for New Orleans and South Louisiana. From the first time I saw the movies Belezaire the Cajun, and The Big Easy, I was hooked. When I stepped foot in the French Quarter for the first time some 18 years ago, the hook was set.
But now the City that Care Forgot is full of nothing but pain, despair, chaos and broken dreams. Hoosiers have always had big hearts and always stepped up to help neighbors in need. Let's do all we can for those in New Orleans -- and throughout south Louisiana and the Mississippi coast. Call the Red Cross at 1-800-HELP NOW and donate -- or call the local Red Cross and volunteer.
One of my favorite songs starts:
Do you know what it means
To miss New Orleans
To miss her each night and day
Let's make sure this stays a haunting melody about simply being away from the something and someone you love, and not an homage to something that was and is no more.
